Cigna-HealthSpring partners with Telcare, a mobile diabetes management solutions leader

Cigna-HealthSpring on Wednesday announced a  partnership with Telcare that will expand health care services for its Texas Medicaid STAR+PLUS membership as a part of an attempt to improve quality of life and reduce costs for its diabetic beneficiaries.

Telcare offers mobile diabetes management solutions and will provide engagement and monitoring services for beneficiaries with diabetes who are enrolled with Cigna-HealthSpring under the Texas Medicaid STAR+PLUS Program. The Telcare platform allows patients to be more engaged in their treatments via a nationwide cell network.

The partnership marks Texas Medicaid’s first use of a cellular-enabled blood glucose meter, which Cigna-HealthSpring will incorporate into its diabetes management program. The addition gives diabetics and caregivers a more-efficient method of controlling the condition.

“We are honored to partner with Cigna-HealthSpring to improve the lives of Texans living with diabetes,” Telcare CEO Andrew Flanagan said. “Our connected technology, combined with the services of a managed care organization like Cigna-HealthSpring, enables the kind of personalized engagement and care coordination required for the successful management of chronic conditions.”

According to the Texas Health Institute, diabetes costs the state more than $12.5 billion a year and effects 1 in 3 Texans—a number expected to quadruple over the next 30 years.
