MedImpact to use FIDO authentication

MedImpact Healthcare Systems, Inc., an independent, trend-focused pharmacy benefit manager, on Monday announced it will be the first to deploy Fast Identity Online (FIDO) authentication for the health care industry.

MedImpact will use Nok Nok Labs technology to assist its Physician Access Portal with FIDO biometric fingerprint authentication to protect patient privacy.

“We opted for a solution powered by Nok Nok Labs to replace the need for passwords for health care providers accessing our physician portal,” MedImpact senior vice president John Treiman said. “By allowing them to use the fingerprint readers built in to devices they are already carrying around with them, we offer an easy path to adoption and fundamentally more secure and more convenient authentication mechanism.“

Health care providers invited to use the MedImpact Physician Access Portal will be the first users to experience the convenience and security of FIDO authentication. The new authentication method gives busy health care providers a fast and secure way to see a patient’s prescription history.

“It lets these health care providers focus on providing care to their patients rather than worrying about following best practices for managing passwords,” Treiman said.

MedImpact will ultimately employ FIDO authentication in all of its web applications available to client health insurance providers and their covered members. The initial solution will launch this summer.
