California pharmacy: New law will expand customers' treatment options

A new state law in California passed in 2013 that allows pharmacists to prescribe hormonal birth control takes effect in October.

MedLife Pharmacy and Compounding in Irvine said the law will benefit customers whenever the abilities and knowledge of pharmacists can be better utilized to help customers with their treatments.

In addition to birth control, the law contains language allowing pharmacists to authorize “nicotine replacement products” without the prior written consent of a patient’s physician.

MedLife said the law is an important step forward in recognizing that pharmacists are important health care providers.

MedLife said compounding pharmacies can have an even greater positive influence on a customer's health care by offering solutions that even a physician may not be able to provide.

MedLife is dedicated to using every right afforded to it by the law to help customers maintain good health. It is essential that each individual has access to the medicine he or she needs, and there is no better way to do that than with the friendly and professional pharmacists at MedLife.
