Cigna survey sheds light on workplace wellness in India

Findings from a recent survey by Cigna analyzing workplace wellness in India were released last week during a forum sponsored by Cigna TTK Health Insurance Company Limited, joint venture between Cigna and Indian conglomerate TTK Group.

The "360 Well-Being Score" survey examined the responses of more than 3,000 individuals throughout India to get a better grasp on the health and well-being of working individuals in that country.

The survey found that the pharmaceutical industry was most dedicated to the wellness of its employee as 73 percent its employees gave a good rating for workplace health and well-being compared to 54 percent in the technology industry and 39 percent in the retail industry.

“The survey is intended to provide employers with valuable insights into their employees’ attitudes toward health and well-being," Cigna TTK CEO and Managing Director Sandeep Patel said. "We believe that better overall health of employees clearly translates to higher productivity and positivity at the workplace. Workplace health and wellness programs can help improve overall employee health and build higher employee engagement, in turn lowering costs associated with health care, absenteeism and employee turnover.”

While the majority of respondents gave high ratings for overall workplace health and well-being, they did mention areas that could be improved. This included wanting more medical benefits, a maternity education program and healthy snacks in the office.

Among many other findings, the survey also reported that stress-levels in the workplace is increasing, with more than half of employees experiencing some kind of physical symptom. Stress seems the most prevalent among employees residing in metro cities.
