FDA declares La'Trim Plus unsafe for consumers

Recent laboratory analysis conducted by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirms that the herbal weight loss dietary supplement La’Trim Plus contains undeclared controlled substance sibutramine and chemical phenolphthalein.

Removed from the consumer market in October 2010, sibutramine is known to increase blood pressure and/or pulse rate in some patients. This type of increase could present a heightened risk for patients with a history of coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias or stroke. Additionally, it is possible that sibutramine could have a dangerous interaction with other consumer medications.

Because the FDA is unable to fully test all products marketed as dietary supplements, many of the products promoted for sexual enhancement, weight loss and bodybuilding may contain harmful hidden ingredients, even if they are labeled as “all natural.”

Phenolphthalein is a chemical compound formerly used in over-the-counter laxatives; it has since had its approval revoked in the United States. FDA studies have revealed that the chemical has a high of cancer.

Patients who have consumed La’ Trim Plus are highly encouraged to report any negative events or side effects related to the use of the product to FDA's MedWatch Safety Information and Adverse Event Reporting Program.
