The National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) recently named Vonnie Hampel as its new director of federal government affairs.

Hampel’s most recent appointment was senior legislative assistant and press secretary to U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack (D-IA), where she handled health policy matters.

Prior to her position with Rep. Loebsack, which began in May 2012, Hampel was former U.S. Rep. Dan Boren’s (D-OK) legislative assistant and press secretary. She has also served in various roles for U.S. Rep. Suzanne Kosmas (D-FL) and finance assistant and field organizer for Chuck Caputo for Delegate, which was a Virginia state legislative campaign.

She earned her bachelor of arts in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she minored in Hispanic Studies. She has also studied abroad in Sevilla, Spain at Estadios Universitarios Y Superiories de Andalucia (EUSA).

Hampel began work at the NACDS on Feb. 24 in the Governemnt Affairs and Public Policy Department. She reports to VP of federal government affairs Tom O’Donnell. The department is headed by Carol Kelly, who serves as the SVP of government affairs and public policy.
