The American Pharmacists Association (APhA), in its efforts to uphold high standards of practicing nuclear pharmacy, has announced a series of educational sessions that will focus on nuclear pharmacy at its 2016 APhA Annual Meeting and Exposition.

The event will take place from March 4 to 7 in Baltimore, Maryland.

Nuclear pharmacy is an area of specialty pharmacy practice devoted to the compounding and distribution of radioactive materials for the use in nuclear medicinal procedures. All of the sessions featured at the APhA meeting have been approved by Purdue University for Board Certified Nuclear Pharmacists (BCNP) recertification credit. The sessions will offer a combined total of 15 hours for credit in continuing pharmacy education.

There will be seven sessions in total, with each of them aimed to the education and recertification of nuclear pharmacy. Among the sessions are: “Brush Up on Advancing Radiopharmaceuticals,” “Updates on Radiopharmaceuticals Compounding,” “ What’s Next in Cardiovascular Imaging,” “Redefining Radiopharmaceutical Reimbursement,” and “Understanding the Radiopharmaceutical Drug Supply Problem: Sessions 1 & 2.”

Specialists are required to get recertification every seven years by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS). The seven sessions presented at the APhA2016 will provide the opportunity for the specialists to get their recertification.
