The National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) held its eighth annual RxIMPACT Day on Capitol Hill this week to showcase grassroots activism and political engagement.

The event, held on March 16 and 17, was attended by approximately 400 pharmacy advocates who met with 90 percent of Congress members. The event also recognized individuals who set the standard for the advancement of pharmacy patient care through a series of awards.

The 2016 NACDS RxIMPACT Key Contract of the Year Award went to Steve McCann, VP of pharmacy for Supervalu Inc. for his special dedication to the NACDS RxIMPACT Key Contact program, which sees advocates become go-to sources for certain members of Congress when pharmacy information is needed.

Mike Duteau, VP of business development and strategic relations for Kinney Drugs, and Daniel Miller, SVP of pharmacy operations for Rite Aid Corp., were recognized by the NACDS Political Action Committee for their leadership in the Chairman’s Inner Circle.

The 2016 RxIMPACT Student Ambassador Award was given to Arathi Pillay of Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy for articles she published that described her participation in the NACDS RxIMPACT “U” Academy last year.
