The American Society of Health-System Pharmacist's (ASHP) Match program has continued to show progress and is continuing to grow at a rapid pace.

More than 3,940 people have been matched with 1,797 residency programs nationwide. The total number of pharmacy residency programs has continued to increase in 2016 with the addition of 322 residency positions.

The results of the Match program have shown that the number of residency programs and available positions is continuing to grow faster than candidates can apply. These numbers show that the ASHP’s attempts at growing residency programs and their size in the United States is working.

Those who applied in the First Match who were not matched with a program or position have a second chance to find potential matches in the Second Match that is set for April 8. Applications for the Second Match are being accepted by residency programs starting on March 23.

The Second Match was introduced by the ASHP due to the increasing number of pharmacists and student pharmacists seeking residencies and also because residency programs are searching for applicants.

The amount of individuals seeking matches with residencies nationwide has continued to see rapid growth in recent years, which led to the creation of the Second Match.
