CVS Health has announced that CVS Caremark, its pharmacy benefits manager, has been awarded the Mail Service Pharmacy accreditation by URAC, a health care accreditation organization located in Washington, D.C.

URAC, formerly known as the Utilization Review Accreditation Commission, is tasked with establishing quality health care industry standards.

The URAC accreditation emphasizes CVS Health’s dedication to providing mail pharmacy services of the utmost quality to its members, which numbers in the millions, who use the service. The Mail Service Pharmacy provided by CVS Caremark gives its customers easy access to their prescriptions while encouraging adherence to the medicines. This is particularly important for patients who suffer from chronic illnesses and conditions that require medications for maintenance.

The CVS Caremark patients who do require maintenance medications for their chronic illnesses and conditions normally use the Mail Service Pharmacy to receive medications for 90-day dosages or longer. The URAC awarded the Mail Service Pharmacy accreditation based on a number of high standards, including the overall quality of the organization, customer service, communications and disclosure, management of drug utilization, pharmacy operations and a mail service process designed for measurement of outcomes and quality improvement.
