CVS Health announced today that its specialty pharmacy, CVS Specialty, has been awarded Specialty Pharmacy accreditation from URAC.

URAC is a health care accrediting organization that is based in Washington, D.C. that institutes quality principles for the health care industry.

Specialty pharmacies serve patients suffering complex conditions who are in need of medications that occasionally need special handling. Specialty pharmacies also provide coordinated care, education on diseases and patient support that is available 24/7.

The URAC Specialty Pharmacy accreditation program assesses organizational standards, which include pharmacy care, customer service, communications, standards for disclosure, management for specialty drugs and patients, and overall pharmacy procedures.

To receive accreditation from URAC, an organization must demonstrate a dedication to quality services and work to improve occupational practices in association with nationally recognized guidelines. The development process for the URAC standards are established by industry experts that serve as volunteers to institute and revise industry benchmarks.
