NACDS thanks legislators for sponsoring 'Better Care, Lower Cost Act'

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores recently sent a letter to U.S. House of Representatives Erik Paulsen (R-MN) and Peter Welsh (D-VT) in appreciation for sponsoring the Better Care, Lower Cost Act (H.R. 4878).

The Social Security Act would be modified by the bill. It would add a Medicare Better Care Program (BCP), which would provide better care for patients with chronic medical conditions.

“Your legislation will promote accountability and better care management for chronically ill patients and provide coordinated services under Parts A, B and D, while recognizing that pharmacists and pharmacy services have great potential to improve care for patients with chronic health conditions,” NACDS President and CEO Steven Anderson wrote.

The proposed BCP would include pharmacist and pharmacy services in its health care model. Patients with chronic conditions who have access to pharmacy services and take their medications properly can avoid additional doctor and emergency room visits and hospitalizations. Pharmacists also assist with preventative services and help improve patients' quality of life.
