NACDS Foundation awards $230,000 in scholarships and grants

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) Foundation awarded $230,000 in scholarships and grants at the NACDS annual meeting last night in Palm Beach, Florida.

The event presented eight grants: six for innovative educational programs and two for excellence in diversity programs. Two memorial scholarships were included in the awards: the Wayne Roberts Memorial Scholarship and the Robert J. Bolger Scholarship, which were provided by Apotex Corp. and Teva, respectively.

“We deeply appreciate the participation of our benefactors, whose generous contributions make the NACDS Foundation Scholarship Program a reality,” NACDS Foundation President Kathleen Jaeger said. “Their continued support demonstrates the commitment of community pharmacy and the pharmaceutical industry to advance public health by supporting innovative educational programs in patient care.”

The excellence in education grants were awarded to Duquesne University, Mylan School of Pharmacy; Midwestern University, Chicago College of Pharmacy; Northeast Ohio Medical University College of Pharmacy; University of Charleston School of Pharmacy; University of Colorado, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and University of New England College of Pharmacy. Each program received a $20,000 grant.

The grants for excellence in diversity programs were awarded to Texas Southern University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy. Each grant was a one-time award of $15,000.

More than 40 applications were submitted to the foundation for this year's scholarships. In addition to the eight awards, each of the college and school of pharmacy deans that attended the event won a $2,000 scholarship for their institution.
