Allergan launches online resource to support patients with IBS-D

Allergan plc today announced the launch of IBSDonTract.com, an online resource is intended to support people with irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D).

"IBS-D can have a significant impact on patients' daily lives — but in many cases, due to embarrassment or uncertainty about symptoms, patients wait years before seeing a doctor," Allergan Chief Medical Officer Dr. Gavin Corcoran said. "IBSDonTract.com is an important resource for patients seeking to better understand the condition and their options. It also helps to explain why talking to their health care provider sooner rather than later is critically important, in order to shorten the time between symptom onset and effective disease management."

IBS-D affects approximately 15 million adults in the U.S. The disorder is characterized by chronic abdominal pain and diarrhea.

The website provides information, a symptom tracker, disease management options and diet tips for patients and the public. It also helps with tips on how to have a conversation with a health care provider about the symptoms of IBS-D. A survey conducted by the American Gastroenterological Association revealed that 66 percent of IBS patients waited more than a year, and 11 percent waited 10 or more years before discussing their symptoms with a doctor.
