AbbVie announces 30 scholarship recipients

AbbVie announced the recipients of its Crohn’s & Colitis Scholarship and its Rheumatology Scholarship on Thursday.

A total of 30 scholarships were awarded to students suffering from inflammatory diseases. The company states that chronic diseases like Crohn’s disease and rheumatologic diseases can bring additional challenges to students.

"Chronic inflammatory diseases may bring challenges that can impact a student's pursuit of higher education," VP of Corporate Responsibility, Brand and Communication at AbbVie Tracie Haas said. "Transforming education is a cornerstone of AbbVie's corporate responsibility practices. We are proud to honor these exceptional students and committed to providing the resources to them today, so they are prepared to succeed tomorrow."

Each scholarship is valued at $15,000 for the upcoming school year. Students that were chosen for the scholarship were evaluated based on their academic performance, a written response to an essay question, the student’s involvement in their community and their ability to serve as a role model. The associated websites for each scholarship lists 15 recipients for the Crohn’s & Colitis Scholarship and 15 recipients for the Rheumatology Scholarship. Conditions that are included for consideration consist of rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease and ankylosing spondylitis.

AbbVie is focused on the development of therapies for complex diseases.
