CVS Pharmacy steps up for West Virginia flood victims

CVS Pharmacy opened a mobile pharmacy in Elkview, West Virginia today to help residents unable to access nearby pharmacies due to the severe flooding late last month.

The Elkview CVS Pharmacy store has been inaccessible since flooding destroyed the access bridge to Crossings Mall on June 23. Several other local pharmacies have also been affected by the floods and are currently closed.

"CVS Pharmacy is committed to ensuring that West Virginia residents hit hard by the June flooding have continued access to critical pharmacy care services," CVS Pharmacy Area VP in West Virginia Scott Wasikowski said. "Whether they are dispensing medications or providing vaccinations, our Elkview pharmacy team is ready to help as the surrounding area begins to recover and rebuild."

The mobile pharmacy is located at 5090 Elk River Rd., near the Elkview Middle School basketball court. Residents can fill prescriptions and receive vaccinations from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. The Charleston, Dunbar and Montgomery CVS Pharmacies can also serve patients whose pharmacies are still closed after the flooding.

The West Virginia Public Health Bureau reminds residents to update their tetanus immunizations. The Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) shots are available at all CVS Pharmacy locations.

CVS Pharmacy has also donated infant care, personal hygiene and other items to Direct Relief for distribution to the four Charleston-area community health centers.
