In the wake of Hurricane Matthew, CVS Health reminds its customers to properly prepare their prescriptions and take care of their needs when storms are approaching their areas.

CVS Health Executive Vice President of Retail Pharmacy and Supply Chain Kevin Hourican said CVS works with insurers as storms approach to allow for early refills in certain cases. When storm warnings are issued, the pharmacy will begin reaching out to patients via text message and email to remind them to refill prescriptions in advance of the potential disaster.

CVS also moves generators into areas targeted by storms and stocks up on emergency items.

"In addition, through CVS Caremark, our pharmacy benefit management company, we (activate) a process that allows us to provide one-time emergency refills of a 10-day supply of medication for plan members impacted in the areas affected," Hourican said.
