The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) recently hosted a national health care forum about value and outcomes in oncology where the key topics of conversation revolved around the fast-growing innovations in oncology and how complex cancer treatments have become.
"The challenge before us is clear," AMCP CEO Susan Cantrell said. "How can we drive advances that facilitate patients receiving the best oncology treatments available today, while remaining good stewards of our health care dollars?"
The focus of the forum was ways to derive better value and outcomes in oncology for the patients, providers, payers and delivery networks. Recent innovations in the field were widely discussed at the forum.
Cantrell said new innovations are providing new hope in regard to treatment and cures for various types of cancer that would not even have been thought of just a few years ago.
"What's also clear is that some of these advances offer better outcomes in terms of quality of life, remission rates and possibly a cure,” he said. “Recognizing and rewarding value is the name of the game in today's health care arena as we move to more cancers being treated as chronic conditions."
