The pharmaceutical research company TPD LLC (Trends in Pharma Development) recently presented its line of PanX medicines for use in treating anxiety that will be available nationwide as prescription compounded drugs.
TPD will work with two companies for U.S. production – Pine Pharmaceuticals and Pine Pharmacy of New York and Custom Meds of Florida. The drugs are set to be available in 49 states.
The company filed for and received two patents in September and December, respectively. The drugs, which have historically safe active ingredients, were created as an alternative to benzodiazepines like Xanax and Valium that are addictive. TPD hopes its products will provide effective, fast-acting and safer alternatives.
"A number of patients with prominent anxiety symptoms do not respond or cannot tolerate currently available treatments,” Charles Nemeroff, the leading authority on anxiety therapies, said in a statement. “This novel approach combining two medications with distinct mechanisms of action has the potential to fill an important niche in the management of such patients."
Nemeroff chairs the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Miami.
