A new trend in communications is on the verge of creating a health care revolution, according to one rehabilitation clinic spokesperson.
“Telehealth,” a term referring to any means by which patients and health care providers communicate remotely, allows doctors, therapists or anyone who provides clinical services to reach out to you in your home and provide you with a similar service or similar level of care,” said Ted Spooner, a representative of telerehab clinic RespondWell.
One of the big trends in Telehealth includes video appointments with doctors, using programs like LiveHealth Online that connect patients with health professionals via video chats. One of the benefits is its 24-hour service availability with no appointment and little waiting.
Telehealth offers an alternative for people when their primary care physician is unavailable, or for patients needing late-night care who live in rural areas.
“If people have good experiences with telehealth and they see the value in it, then I think they will invest in their health much more regularly, and maybe not wait until there are issues,” Spooner said.
