New data released by the Department of Health and Human Services shows that adults with disabilities on Medicare continue to save on prescriptions, and that there has been an increase in benefits from last year as a result of the Affordable Care Act.
Since its introduction in 2010, the ACA has provided more than 11.8 million Medicare beneficiaries with discounts totaling $26.8 billion on prescription drugs. Last year, more than 5.2 million patients received discounts, an amount that totaled an estimated $5.6 billion.
“While the Affordable Care Act has expanded coverage to 20 million Americans, the law is also a game-changer for millions of older Americans,” Andy Slavitt, acting president of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, said. “These benefits are providing seniors and people with disabilities with Medicare coverage, increased financial security and the guarantee that they can get an important preventive screening without cost to them.”
