President Donald Trump recently met with pharmaceutical executives concerning the prices of drugs and the regulations surrounding them.
Trump said there is a need to lower the prices of drugs, reduce regulations and bring manufacturing of drugs to the United States through increased competition and what he called "bidding wars."
Stephen Ubi, president of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, said the pharmaceutical industry will be receptive to the concept of working through Trump's administration, using the term "market-based reforms" to describe the changes the administration is seeking.
Following the meeting, Trump took part in an investor call during which he said he did not decide upon any new policies about the pricing of drugs in the U.S.
Though the meeting was viewed as a positive one by Ubi, it was not obvious as to whether or not the new president was suggesting that the government become involved or whether the market would drive price solutions.
