Sanofi, a global leader in health care and medication distribution, has received FDA approval of Xyzal Allergy 24HR as an over-the-counter (OTC) medicine.
Xyzal is used for the treatment of seasonal and year-round allergies.
"The FDA approval of Xyzal builds on our heritage of successful Rx-to-OTC switches, and adds another trusted option to our existing portfolio of OTC allergy medications," Sanofi's head of North America Consumer Healthcare Robert Long said. "We look forward to making it available to allergy sufferers across the country, as the latest product in our growing consumer health care business."
Xyzal is an antihistamine, a very common type of treatment for allergies, and harnesses its allergy fighting properties through the ingredient levocetirizine dihydrochloride.
The OTC approval has been extended to both the 5 mg tablets for ages 6 and up and the 0.5 mg/mL oral solution for ages 2 and up.
