Cumberland Pharmaceuticals Inc.'s recent clinical study showed its Caldolor injection (ibuprofen) to be a safe and effective source of fever reduction in hospitalized pediatric use.
The study was conducted in 14 sites in the U.S. and took into consideration 103 hospitalized children aged 16 years and younger. In children who were suffering from fevers of 101 degrees and up, a single dose of 10mg/kg of the intravenous ibuprofen provided noticeable relief from the fever.
Caldolor has been approved by the FDA for use within the pediatric medical realms, but has also been proved effective in adults who are suffering from pain and high temperatures. Caldolor is the first intravenous drug that was approved by the FDA for fever reduction.
The drug, however, should be used with great care, as it can pose a risk for individuals who have suffered from ulcer disease, GI bleeding, fluid retention of heart failure. Individuals who are taking diuretics or ACE inhibitors should also be careful when taking Caldolor.
