Kim Nguyen, of La Puenta, California, has received the MD Labs/Rxight Scholarship Supporting Excellence in Pharmacy Students.
The $1,000 scholarship is offered each year for graduate students who are pursuing a career in pharmacy.
Nguyen graduated with her B.S. in biochemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles and has gone on to Keck Graduate Institute School of Pharmacy, where she is working toward her doctor of pharmacology degree. She hopes to work at a teaching medical center and is working on a project to integrate the testing of pharmacogenetics at a community pharmacy.
"My love for pharmacogenetics/pharmacogenomics solidified during my enrollment in a graduate level genetics course and I will use my research to advance the pharmacy profession," Nguyen said.
Rxight is among the most inclusive of pharmacogenetic programs, and its laboratories are involved in a screening process that determines if the medications and dosing are appropriate for certain individuals.
