John Sykora and Jan Kavookjian were both honored at the National Community Pharmacists Association’s 2015 Annual Convention, which was held this week at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center.

Kavookjian received the 2015 NCPA Outstanding Adherence Educator Award. Sykora was given the 2015 NCPA Outstanding Adherence Practitioner Award, sponsored by Mirixa.

“John Sykora is an outstanding and very worthy recipient of the 2015 NCPA Outstanding Practitioner Award, because he is a trailblazer in bringing medication synchronization to retail pharmacies,” John T. Sherrer, NCPA president and co-owner of Poole’s Pharmacy in Marietta, Georgia, said. “John understands that if the United States is going to reduce the estimated $290 billion a year that is wasted on non-adherence then pharmacists must utilize proven strategies for ensuring drug regimens are being maximized. Medication synchronization programs are a shining example of that philosophy being applied to the real world.”

The NCPA Outstanding Adherence Practitioner Award honors an independent community pharmacist who shows a commitment to patient adherence services.

“The value of medication adherence cannot be overstated,” Marvin Richardson, CEO of Mirixa, said. “The entire healthcare industry collectively recognizes the importance of medication adherence. Community pharmacy plays a critical role in improving medication adherence and results in a profound positive impact on our patients’ overall health and wellness. We at Mirixa are proud to support the recognition of these efforts.”
