Jonathan Gavras named CMO of Prime Therapeutics

Prime Therapeutics LLC, a company that manages pharmacy benefits and serves more than 26 million people, recently named Jonathan B. Gavras, M.D., as its new chief medical officer (CMO).

Dr. Gavras will be responsible for developing and implementing programs for care management and application of specialty pharmaceuticals in his new position with Prime. Dr. Gavras will also be leading the Prime health outcomes team, which includes the development of clinical guidelines for prescription management programs that is encompassed by pharmacy and medical benefits.

Dr. Gavras brings with him to Prime more than 20 years of experience in leadership roles in the health care industry. In the past, he has served as the president for Avalon Healthcare Solutions, located in Tampa Bay, Florida. He held a variety of executive physician positions during his time with Florida Blue, which is Florida’s Blue Cross and Blue Shield company. While working with Florida Blue, Dr. Gavras was responsible for the launch and leadership of GuideWell Health. GuideWell Health is an independent business entity that has two staff-model HMOs. Before Florida Blue, he filled executive physician roles with UnitedHealth Group and Prudential Health Care Plan.
