The National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) announced the release of its second get-out-the-vote video, "Momentum" yesterday.
The NACDS urged pharmacy professionals to volunteer and
vote for their preferred candidates in upcoming elections. The hashtag
#PharmacyVoter is being used in social media to encourage voter engagement.
“The first video emerged as a rallying cry to help take pharmacy’s grassroots and political activism to the next level,” NACDS President and CEO Steven C. Anderson said. "It has been great to see NACDS members, state association partners, colleges and schools of pharmacy and other allies using it to engage more pharmacy activists. This second video continues to make the case that engagement in the political arena is essential for telling the story of pharmacy patient care, and for advancing a pro-patient and pro-pharmacy policy agenda.”
The two videos are part of the NACDS RxIMPACT Votes grassroots advocacy effort to encourage pharmacists and pharmacy personnel to engage in the political process. The first ad was a 30-second spot called "Effective." It debuted during the NACDS RxIMPACT Day in March. Nearly 400 pharmacy advocates met and discussed patient care issues with U.S. Congress members. The video compared votes to medication — if the vote or the meds are not used, they are wasted opportunities.
The second video emphasized that awareness of pharmacy services needs to be kept in front of federal and state legislators. The efforts of NACDS have resulted in legislators co-sponsoring legislation recognizing pharmacists as health care providers and improving access to pharmacists' services for the medically underserved.
