ASCP to hold geriatric pharmacist training workshop

The American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) will hold a training and preparation session July 31 to Aug. 1 in Linthicum Heights, Maryland.

The session, called the Certified Geriatric Pharmacist (CGP) Exam Preparation and Recertification Boot Camp, will provide workshop-style training for pharmacists hoping to obtain board certification or to earn recertification credits. The two-day workshop will cover issues and aspects relating to aging and its effects on individual physiology, as well as its effect on socioeconomics.

As the population of elderly individuals increases, with improved medical care and scientific enhancements, it is essential for those in health care, specifically the pharmaceutical profession, to be familiar and knowledgeable in this geriatric medicine.

The session is the equivalent to 15 credit hours of CGP recertification credits or continuing pharmacy-education credits. CGP certification can improve job prospects for new employment opportunities or expanded opportunities with a pharmacist's current company.

The ASCP is an international professional society that works to improve and optimize medication for elderly individuals and aims to aid in the development of quality-of-life improvements for several kinds of facilities, including assisted-living homes, hospitals, hospices and nursing homes.

The workshop will be held at the BWI Marriott in Linthicum Heights.
