EMD Serono names Gary Zieziula president and managing director

EMD Serono announced this week that Gary Zieziula has been named president and managing director of the Massachusetts-based biopharma company.

EMD Serono is the North American counterpart of Merck KGaA in Darmstadt, Germany. Zieiula will head up EMD, which includes implementing a course of action for the strategic direction of the company and sustaining growth across North America.

EMD delivers specialty care through innovative science, medicines and devices. It is also a leader in patient support and access programs. Zieziula has held the position of Chief Commercial Officer for EMD Serono since 2014, where he oversaw the company’s franchises performance in multiple sclerosis, fertility, endocrinology and oncology. His experience in the pharmaceutical industry exceeds 30 years, which include serving in senior level positions at MSD, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Roche and AMAG Pharmaceuticals. Zieziula received his bachelor's of science degree from the University of New York at Buffalo. He earned his MBA from Canisius College.

EMD Serono will look to Zieziula to help it capitalize on their success in their oncology and immuno-oncology programs as well as all aspects of the biopharma business.
