The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), run by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), made a joint announcement with the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) establishing funding opportunities for an Information Sharing and Analysis Organization (ISAO) for both the health care and public health sectors.
“Establishing robust threat information sharing infrastructure and capability within the health care and public health sector is crucial to the privacy and security of health information, which is foundational to the digital health system,” National Coordinator for Health IT Dr. Karen DeSalvo said. “This coordinated resource will focus on sharing the most up-to-date threat information across the health and public health sectors and will better equip health systems to identify potential threats and further protect electronic health information.”
The ONC and ASPR announcement calls on the Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ISAC) to make available information on cybersecurity and education on cyber threats that are currently affecting the health care and public health sectors, increase outreach and educational programs to expand the availability of cybersecurity awareness information, provide opportunities for stakeholders to respond to cyber threats and share information with the health care and public health sectors.
