NC DHHS proposes changes to controlled substance disposal rules for nursing homes

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS) has put forward amendments to its rule on the disposal of controlled substances from nursing homes. The Commission for Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services is behind this proposal, which seeks to permanently amend Rule 10A NCAC 26E .0406.

Additionally, the Commission aims to adopt Rule 10A NCAC 27G .3605 concerning medication units and mobile units through permanent procedures. Both proposed rules can be accessed on the Commission's Proposed Rules page.

The public is invited to comment on these proposals from June 17, 2025, until August 15, 2025. Comments can be submitted electronically via email to dmhddsasrules@dhhs.nc.gov or mailed to W. Denise Baker at 3001 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC 27699-3001.
