The United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced that vaccine manufacturers will be required to remove thimerosal, a mercury-based preservative, from all influenza vaccines distributed in the country. This policy follows a recommendation made by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices at its June 2025 meeting.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s advisory group reviewed current data before making its recommendation. The decision aligns with ongoing efforts to minimize mercury exposure in medical products.
