Rita Habib was recently selected as the 2015-2016 American College of Clinical Pharmacy--American Society of Health-System Pharmacists--Virginia Commonwealth University (ACCP-ASHPVCU) Congressional Healthcare Policy Fellow, and is scheduled to begin her fellowship program on Sept. 1.
Habib will use the program as part of her completion of a two-year residency at Allegheny General Hospital, a branch of the Allegheny Health Network based in Pittsburgh, for health system pharmacy administration. She attended Rutgers University’s Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy for her doctoral degree. She received her master’s degree public health from the University of Pittsburgh.
Before beginning the program, Habib will complete an orientation to Congress course hosted by the Brookings Institution and VCU faculty. For one month, she will work with the ASHP government affairs and policy team and for another month she will be with the ACCP government and professional affairs staff. Beginning in November and ending in August 2016, she will serve as a policy fellow with the personal staff of a United States senator or representative, or she will be a policy fellow as part of a congressional committee.
This is the ninth year of the fellow program, which offers pharmacists unique opportunities for insights into health care policy development and analysis.
