FDA approves Barium Sulfate
The drug is used to visualize the gastrointestinal (GI) tract during examinations of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum. E-Z-HD was first introduced as a product in the United States by E-Z-EM before the company was bought by Bracco Diagnostics Inc. in 2008.
Patients with perforated or obstructed GI tracts and known reactions to what the product may contain have been advised not to use E-Z-HD.
A bottle of E-Z-HD powder should have 65 mL of water added to it before using.
