Livanta announced last week that it has agreed to the long-term use of InterQual to ensure and review the quality of care for Medicare beneficiaries, including short-stay patients.

Livanta made the decision to use InterQual when it became the Beneficiary and Family-Centered Care Quality Improvement Organization (BFCC-QIO) for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Areas 1 and 5. The company will apply the Level of Care, Care Planning Criteria and Behavioral Health Criteria programs developed by InterQual.

Livanta conducts audits on short-stay claims and is one of just two BFCC-QIOs the CMS has given authority to conduct these audits. Livanta focuses on the improvement of care patients receive and the management of health care costs. It provides technological information, consultations on health care, business process outsourcing, quality improvement programs and communication strategies to the public sector and health care customers.

The InterQual system helps to improve clinical decision-making based on criteria provided by evidence. These procedures span across medical and behavioral fields of care. InterQual produces quality and up-to-date evidence and integrates the data into its decision support tool that is updated on an annual basis.
