Aetna announces purchase of Florida-based Humana affiliates
The acquisition was approved by the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR). With that, Aetna has succeeded in securing 10 of the 20 approvals granted by the state that are required by law.
Florida thoroughly reviewed the competitive landscape in the state during its evaluation of the transaction. The OIR’s review determined that traditional Medicare can and does match with Medicare Advantages in a competitive manner, giving customers a wide variety of choice. Aetna’s goal is to look for prospects that will allow them to extend their services into communities where it can provide affordable care to their customers.
The company will continue to collaborate with the Department of Justice during its review. Part of the approval procedure could involve the Department of Justice calling for divestitures. This is a normal part of the approval process. If this is the case, then consumers will continue to have plenty of health care options, Aetna officials stated.
