CVS Health announced today that CVS Caremark received its certification in Utilization Management from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).
CVS Caremark is a pharmacy benefits manager (PBM) that
uses its own Utilization Management Program to promote appropriate therapies and
cost-effective drug benefit plans.
"At CVS Caremark, we are pleased to earn this important certification from NCQA, which further validates our commitment to providing high quality utilization management services to our clients," President Jonathan Roberts said. "Utilization management programs help ensure that members access clinically appropriate and cost-effective therapies and as a result, are integral in helping our clients manage costs while improving health outcomes for their members."
To receive NCQA certification, an organization must pass a rigorous evaluation and meet key areas of performance. The oversight committee reviews the findings of the evaluation team, made up of physicians and managed care experts, and makes the final decision on the certification. NCQA is an independent, non-profit organization that certifies health care organizations.
"Achieving Utilization Management certification from NCQA demonstrates that CVS Caremark has the systems, process and personnel in place to conduct utilization management in accordance with the strictest quality standards," NCQA President Margaret E. O'Kane said.
