UnitedHealth Group evolves leadership, maintains social responsibility

Minnesota’s UnitedHealth Group, based in Minnetonka, recently recalibrated its leadership team as it forges ahead with new products and services to serve its members with the latest developments in medical care coverage and benefits.

United consists of two divisions: care and benefits provider arm UnitedHealthCare, and Optum, geared towards information and technology-based services. The company maintains an ethic of philanthropy and social responsibility.

Optum’s former EVP/CFO John Rex has been named as CFO for UnitedHealth Group, replacing David Wichmann who is now company president. Current EVP/CMO Tami Reller will now serve as CFO for Optum. Reller previously worked at Microsoft as well as Great Plains Software.

Rex has also been tapped as a member of the Office of the Chief Executive to work in tandem with other leadership members. In his new position he will be responsible for treasury activity and mergers and acquisitions, as well as activity related to venture and private equity outlay.

Wichmann said, “The deep bench of our leadership team has long been a hallmark of UnitedHealth Group. John Rex has been an exceptional leader at Optum and a highly valued contributor to the enterprise overall, so our company will be very well served with him in his new role.”

In the wake of the recent mass shooting in Orlando, Florida, UnitedHealth Group has opened a 24-hour toll-free help line at 866-342-6892 to help people manage stress, staffed by specially trained Optum mental health specialists.
