AbbVie, a biopharmaceutical company that operates worldwide, has announced its 2016 Thriving Student Scholarship Contest.

The contest will grant educational funding in the amount of $24,000 to two extraordinary students with cystic fibrosis (CF).

AbbVie donated $3,000 AbbVie CF Scholarships to 40 undergraduate and graduate students currently living with CF earlier this year. The recipients of the scholarships for this school year were selected based on academic excellence, extracurricular activities and creativity. These students now have the chance to be named the 2016 Thriving Undergraduate or Graduate Student and receive $21,000 in additional scholarship money.

"I was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at five years old. Since then, I have dedicated my life to staying healthy and maintaining a strong, positive mentality so that I can achieve my goals," 2015 Thriving Graduate Student Mary Grace Bernard said. "Being awarded the AbbVie CF Scholarship has helped me to follow my dreams, and provided the financial support needed to pursue my passion for art."

For 24 years, the AbbVie CF Scholarship has gone toward the honoring and support of young adults living with CF who wish to pursue higher education. The scholarship is also part of AbbVie’s dedication to the CF community.
