Pacira Pharmaceuticals has released new data supporting EXPAREL and the benefits it could offer patients who must undergo third molar, or wisdom teeth, removal.

The release of this data is the company’s official launch of the product in the oral surgery community. EXPAREL is a non-opioid used to temper postsurgical pain during the procedure.

“We are pleased to work with the oral surgery community to help make EXPAREL available to patients undergoing third molar extraction and other relevant oral and maxillofacial procedures where long-lasting pain control is required to help patients get through the immediate postsurgical period,” Pacira Chairman and CEO Dave Stack said. “We believe the ability to offer patients and their caregivers — often their parents, in the case of third molar extraction patients — a safe and effective non-opioid option will not only help reduce over-reliance on opioids, but also mitigate exposure to their unwanted side effects and the potential for long-term safety risks like opioid misuse, abuse or addiction.”

The new Pacira product is an alternative to opioid-based medicines in a time where opioid addiction and opioid-related deaths are running rampant in the United States.
