UnitedHealthcare's 2.4 million clients enrolled in its employer-sponsored health plans will soon be able to access Real Appeal, an online weight-loss program that is personalized, interactive and uses personal coaches and an internet television show that inspires individuals to be active, get healthy and lose weight.
"Real Appeal creates an environment that keeps people intrigued, and works to ensure their healthier behaviors stick for a lifetime," UnitedHealthcare Commercial Group Business CEO Jeff Alter said. "We are thrilled to offer Real Appeal to our employer customers across the country to promote weight loss and help millions of people get on the road to better health."
Real Appeal was designed to aid people in the reduction of health conditions associated with weight they may be at risk of incurring, including heart disease and diabetes.
"Weight-related health issues have reached an epidemic level and are taking a significant toll on our country's health and financial resources," UnitedHealthcare Executive Vice President and CMO Dr. Sam Ho said. "We are encouraged by the value Real Appeal has demonstrated by enabling people to lose weight, make better choices and live healthier lives."
Real Appeal begins Jan. 1.
