The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) recently released new guidelines to help health care providers and family members manage and prevent peanut allergies in infants.
There are three separate guidelines that monitor a child’s allergy and reactions should they occur at different levels of growth and risk.
“Living with peanut allergy requires constant vigilance,” NIAID Director Anthony Fauci said. “Preventing the development of peanut allergy will improve and save lives and lower health care costs."
Fauci said NIAID expects widespread implementation of these guidelines by health care providers will prevent the development of peanut allergy in many susceptible children, and ultimately reduce the prevalence of peanut allergy in the United States.
