The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of American (PhRMA) recently sponsored "Through the Microscope: Examining Modern Medicine," its first national health care dialogue series.
The Feb. 21 event was held in Boston to promote conversation about changes in patient care and science that have led to medical breakthroughs, new technology and new treatments. The conversation included investments required for future innovations to be possible.
"Many of the groundbreaking advancements in medicine are happening right here in Boston's thriving health care community, where scientists and researchers are transforming patient care," PhRMA Presdent and CEO Stephen Ubi said.
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute CEO Dr. Laurie Glimcher was the keynote speaker, with WBZ-TV's Emmy Award-winning journalist Joe Shortsleeve taking part in the conversation.
Biopharmaceutical scientists taking part in the panel discussions included Gilmore O'Neil, Biogen's senior view president of drug innovation units, and Dr. Daniel Skovronsky, senior view president of drug development at Eli Lilly.
