According to a recent PRNewswire release, CVS Pharmacy is the first national retail pharmacy chain to remove trans fat from its store brand food products.
The Food and Drug Administration's deadline for the removal of trans fat from processed foods is June 2018.
"We applaud CVS Pharmacy for working proactively to remove artificial trans fats from its store brands products well in advance of the federal deadline," Dr. Eduardo Sanchez, the American Heart Association's chief medical officer for prevention, said. "The early removal of trans fats in all CVS Pharmacy store brands products will help to improve overall heart health and prevent heart disease for many Americans."
Trans fats have been related to coronary heart disease and heart attacks, and it is the hope of the FDA that the removal of this ingredient will aid individuals in living healthier lives.
"At CVS Pharmacy we are dedicated to helping our customers lead healthier lives, and moved quickly to ensure all of our snack and grocery store products are free from artificial trans fats," Judy Sansone, senior vice president for front store business and chief merchant, said.
