CVS Health has selected Epic as its new electronic health record (EHR) system for its more specialized care program, CVS Specialty, which includes Accordant, a care management program available to individuals suffering from rare diseases.
Epic is the most used EHR in the U.S., with 1.3 million records exchanged every day. It will help CVS Specialty's approach to evidence-based care options and aid in maintaining communications with health care professionals throughout the country.
CVS MinuteClinics have been using the EPIC EHR system since 2015, but this will make its involvement even more widespread.
"By transitioning to the Epic EHR, we can further coordinate care across health care disciplines and settings, which promotes more effective and informed health care decision making," Accordant President Trip Hofer said.
CVS Specialty is a quickly growing health care choice in the country and gives individuals with more difficult conditions advanced services which were previously harder to obtain, such as drug therapy management, dispensing and infusion services, support and counseling, and more. For customers who qualify, there is also disease education, counseling and benefits verification available.
