Baxter International Inc. has combined its DoseEdge pharmacy workflow management system with the Epic Willow Inpatient Pharmacy System an innovative “bi-directional integration” between two existing systems
DoseEdge itself functions by interfacing pharmacy information systems (PIS) to capture data and automate prescription fulfillment, while Epic Willow Inpatient Pharmacy System originated as a “closed-loop” medication ordering system in connection with the University of Miami in Florida.
Now, the DoseEdge Pharmacy Workflow Manager provides connectivity for streamlined delivery of drug orders for health care facilities, linking dedicated intravenous workflow systems and hospital electronic medical records. The new platform can help hospitals to comply with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services regulations.
“Every time a pharmacist compounds a patient dose of medication in the pharmacy clean room, the DoseEdge System collects data on each ingredient, and can send this information directly to the patient’s medical record, where it can be accessed by the hospital billing system,” David Ferguson, Baxter’s general manager of medication delivery, said. “This integration will help save clinicians time and ensure accuracy, and represents a straightforward way for hospitals to satisfy their pharmacy safety, efficiency and revenue cycle needs.”
Based in Deerfield, Illinois, Baxter focuses on treating hemophilia, kidney disease, immune disorders and other medical conditions. Baxter is committed to enhancing medication delivery efficiently and safely through its compounding products and services portfolio.
