Novo Nordisk is recalling insulin cartridge holders of the NovoPen Echo model, warning that they may crack if they are in the presence of chemicals, such as those found in cleaners.
The potential for holder damages would reduce the amount of insulin a patient was receiving, which could result in dangerously high blood sugar levels. Symptoms of high blood sugar include thirst, fatigue, fruity breath, dry skin, being flushed, nausea or vomiting, and dry mouth.
The batches in question were dispensed between Aug. 1, 2016 and June 22, 2017. Individuals with the following batches will be provided new replacement cartridge holders: EVG1221, EVG1226, FVG7149, FVG7458, FVG8134, FVG8135.
Those in possession of one of these batch numbers should contact Novo Nordisk at 855-419-8827.
