In a digital ad campaign, the advocacy group 5G Action Now highlights five facts about 5G technology's vital role in the U.S. healthcare system and the fight against COVID-19. The crux of the campaign is 5G technology access by and expansion into rural America to provide telemedicine, which the World Health Organization calls an essential service.

The campaign launched on April 15, and the paid digital advertisements will run at least until May 15. The campaign's intent is reaching policymakers and influencers in both the healthcare and telecommunications fields. The ads are geotargeted to focus on audiences in the Washington D.C. area.

“The benefits of 5G technology are endless, but nowhere are the benefits more important and immediate than in our healthcare system,” said 5G Action Now spokesperson Ian Prior regarding the campaign. “We applaud Chairman Pai and the FCC for its $200 million telehealth plan and encourage Congress to keep working to expand 5G and help Americans get the healthcare they need during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

5G is the fifth generation of wireless communication technology designed for communication devices. 5G Action Now was founded by former Michigan state representative Mike Rogers, former Chairman of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

On its website 5gactionnow.com, the group’s stated goal is to “elevate the conversation regarding American national security and the economic benefits of winning the 5G innovation and deployment battle against China. 5G will spur economic growth in rural America, create an environment for technological expansion, and put the U.S. on strong national security footing for generations to come."
