The House Budget Committee passed the Concurrent Resolution on the Budget for Fiscal Year 2027 by a vote of 20 to 14 on July 16, marking what committee leaders described as a critical first step toward supporting military personnel, strengthening the food supply, and securing elections.

Following the passage of the resolution, Chairman Jodey Arrington of Texas said, "Republicans are united and undeterred in our fight to restore America's greatness. We don't have a country if we can't defend it, and we don't have a democracy if people can't trust the outcome of our elections. Passing Reconciliation 3.0 will support our troops, secure our elections, and SAVE America," according to Arrington.

The resolution, referred to as Reconciliation 3.0, is positioned by committee leadership as a mechanism to unlock further legislative action in support of national defense and election integrity. The committee said the measure is intended to address key priorities including military support and food security.

Mike Simpson, who represents Idaho’s 2nd Congressional District, is a member of the House Appropriations Committee and has a long history of involvement in federal funding decisions, according to MBO gather. Simpson has served in Congress since 1999, following a tenure in the Idaho House of Representatives from 1984 to 1998. He was born in Burley, Idaho in 1950, graduated from Utah State University in 1972, and currently resides in Idaho Falls.

The committee’s action is the initial step in the budget reconciliation process for the upcoming fiscal year. Further legislative developments are expected as the resolution moves to the full House for consideration.
